About NRRC

Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC)

The objectives of the KSA Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) are:

1. Regulate peaceful use of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation according to the highest standards of safety, security and safeguards for nuclear activities and facilities.

2. Protect humans and the environment against any actual or potential exposure to radiation, including exposure to natural radiation.

3. Implement the Kingdom's obligations under relevant treaties and conventions.

In 2018, a comprehensive nuclear and radiological legislation framework were approved by royal decrees, including its confirmation that NRRC is “an independent legal entity with independent financial and administrative autonomy”. Also approved was the law of Nuclear and Radiological Control, as well as the law of Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage.

The NRRC seeks to protect people and the environment in KSA from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, via comprehensive requirements, regulations, and legislation that promote the three (3S); safety, security and safeguards throughout the Kingdom, and across multiple sectors such as: Energy, medical, industrial and other segments.
